A Brief Discussion of Disability & Stigma in the United States
The main culprit in the movement toward the institutionalization of the disability community was social attitudes. People simultaneously thought of disabled people as equal parts incapable of running their own lives, in need of protection, and dangerous to the public (IL Media, 2013).
